Many of us consider kopi as Singapore’s national drink. It is easy to see why, as the origins of kopi date back centuries when our forefathers first came to this South East Asian outpost of the vast British Empire. They could not afford the expensive and high quality Arabica beans that their Europeans employers drank. As such, our ingenious ancestors had to improvise with inferior Robusta beans from Indonesia, which were roasted with sugar and butter to enhance their flavour.
Today, kopi is more relevant than ever in our thriving F&B scene. Modern roasters (like ours!) roast Arabica and Robusta beans to create a unique blend that adds a polished, bitter, fragrant and traditional taste to the kopi. Kopi is loved by not only by locals but also by expats and tourists from all reaches of the globe. Kopi truly is like Singapore, traditional yet cosmopolitan. #uniquelysingapore
